If you find that you are not being remembered, it is most likely that your brand strategy is not representing you effectively.

What is a brand strategy? To put it simply, brand strategy is like a personality test for your business. People connect with people based on one’s characteristics. This is the same as your business brand. Your brand needs to be treated like a living human being, not a dead one! So having a brand personality will help your brand connect with people on a more personal level.

 

But where do you begin to develop a personality for your brand?

A good way to start, is to think of your brand as a celebrity.

  1. If your brand was a celebrity, who would it be? And why?
  2. What three words would you use to describe that celebrity?
  3. What is this celebrity famous for?

Then compare your answers to your brand and see if they are in line with who you currently are as a brand. The last point is important because you will need to be clear on what you are famous for, which will also be your USP!

So take 10 minutes now to think about who your brand would be if it were a celebrity. Then ask your friends, suppliers or closest clients to see who they think your brand celebrity is. If there is a huge difference in perception, then you may need to work on developing your brand to achieve the perception you are after.
